Privacy policy

Short version: there are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking scripts. Likes are anonymous, and your preferences stay in your browser.

This policy explains what information OpenDesignMD ("we", "us") handles when you use opendesignmd.com (the "site"), why, and the choices you have. If you have a question that isn't answered here, email[email protected].

What we collect

Information your browser sends to every website

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. When you load a page, Cloudflare receives what any web server receives: your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for, the page that linked to it, and the time. Cloudflare uses this to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse, such as a burst of automated likes. We don't run our own logs, and we don't use this information to identify you.

Likes

When you like a design, your browser sends us three things, which we store in a Cloudflare D1 database:

  • the design you liked,
  • a random ID that your browser made the first time you liked something, and
  • the time of the like.

The random ID isn't linked to your name, email, account or IP address. It exists only so you can take a like back, and so one browser counts once per design. Unliking a design deletes that like from the database.

Settings stored in your browser

Your theme, card size and liked list are kept in your browser's local storage, on your device. Apart from likes, they are never sent to us. The cookie policy lists each item.

Emails you send us

If you email us, we receive your address and your message, and use them only to reply and to handle your request.

What we don't do

  • No accounts, sign-ups or forms.
  • No analytics, advertising, social media or other third-party scripts. Fonts and images are served from this site.
  • No selling or renting of personal information, and no sharing it for targeted advertising.
  • No profiling or automated decisions about you.

Why we use it

We use the information above only to:

  • deliver the site and keep it secure, which is our legitimate interest in running a reliable service;
  • count and remember your likes, because you asked us to by pressing Like; and
  • answer messages you send us.

Who handles it

Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site and the likes database, and processes request data on our behalf under its own privacy policy and data processing terms. Cloudflare runs a global network, so requests may be handled in a country other than yours. Where the law requires it, these transfers rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. We would only disclose information to anyone else if the law required it.

How long we keep it

  • Likes: until you unlike the design, or until we remove likes that look automated.
  • Request data: kept by Cloudflare for its standard log periods, usually days, not months.
  • Emails: as long as needed to deal with your request, then deleted.
  • Browser settings: until you clear them. They never leave your device unless they're likes.

Your choices and rights

You can unlike any design to delete that like, and clear this site's data in your browser settings to remove everything stored on your device. Depending on where you live, including the EU, UK and California, you may also have the right to access, correct, delete or move personal information about you, to object to or restrict how it's used, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We'll never treat you differently for using these rights.

To make a request, email [email protected]. Because likes aren't tied to who you are, we may ask for the random ID stored in your browser (the like-visitor item) to find yours.

Children

The site is a tool for designers and developers and isn't directed at children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Links to other websites

Design pages link to the websites they describe. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we aren't responsible for them. When you follow a link, the other site only learns that you came from opendesignmd.com, not which page.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and the date at the top. We won't start using information in a new way without saying so here first.
